Back in 2009 when I was first starting Digital Robot Software I met Davy Mac of Davy Mac Cre@tive. Davy introduced me how important design was as part of my company branding in addition to my applications. After seeing examples of Davy’s designs I was highly impressed and soon we were working towards creating a strong branding for DRS.

Davy is a true professional and one of the best designers I have worked with, from the initial concept through to final project delivery Davy kept me involved every step of the way and even now two years later he still supports us with advice, templates and sourcing the best places for printing. His dedication to ensuring I make the right decisions when preparing for our logo appear in print and in other mediums is a testament to his commitment for his clients and projects.

The design work Davy’s creates speaks for itself, it is top class and I couldn’t recommend him highly enough for anyone looking for any form of creative work such as company branding, icons, illustrations or websites.

As we mentioned previously here at DRS we were hosting our first AGM last Saturday (September 10th).

The event was a huge success and we ended up with a strong company goals and a creative platform approach, which will see us into 2012.

Adam, our in house designer is hard at work on some updates our site that will be going live in the coming weeks.

We received a wall canvas today with the DRS logo on it (Size A0), which will be used as as a focal point on one of our office walls.

DRS are getting ready for the first annual general meeting, which will include a company BBQ that will be held on Saturday September 10th.

This will be a big day for us as we will be issuing our goals and targets for the next year, including the possibility of expanding the team.

For the DRS team push notifications are a big deal and with the introduction of iOS 5 they are just getting better and better. It is important for us to utilise this feature heavily in our current production line to provide the following user benefits for all push notification updates:

1. Real time
2. Unintrusive
3. Full historical lists
4. User controlled
5. User defined

2011 has been a busy year for Digital Robot Software and we have many exciting announcements to make.

Firstly due to a wide range of factors there has been little activity of The Manual lately, however this is going to change – every Wednesday there will be an official update from the team covering design and development as well as sneak peeks into what we are currently working on. There will be subsequent updates in addition to the regular Wednesday slot for items of interest.

We are pleased to welcome Gareth Kyle to the team, Gareth is a top class Java developer and will be assisting us with the Android implementation of our latest project (It’s hush hush for the moment).

Our in house designer Adam is working hard on making some amendments to the DRS site, which will provide a more robust user experience. Adam is a also getting ready to undertake the UI and UX design for our next large scale project which will be available on the iPhone and Android initially and will be closely followed by a release on the iPad and Android tablets.

It is exciting times for us at the moment and we are looking forward to a great in house product launch in the near future.

I am thinking about writing and teaching course later this summer entitled ‘Digital Robot Software: Learning from the manual’ (The manual of course being the company blog).

This will be a free course for people interested in software development (even if you haven’t done any before, so everyone is welcome) and will aim to tech people the basics of software development and build on these foundations, so by the end of the course you should be able to build basic iPhone applications.

If this goes well I can also extend the course to cover more advanced concepts but I just want to get an idea of who might be interested.

I am pleased to announce that Digital Robot Software will be attending this years World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco which begins on June 7th and continues until June 11th.

As WWDC is an Apple conference it is focused on iPhone, iPad and Mac development and this will be an amazing opportunity for us to meet the Apple engineers and learn a wide array of new SDK features, that we will be implementing into our applications over the next year.

After 6 months, we are finally live!

Since November last year I have been working hard to establish Digital Robot Software as a new software development studio in Belfast. During this time I have been hard at work developing a wide range of applications for the iPhone, iPad, Mac while also investigating the Android platform.

In addition to this we have also been through a significant branding process, thanks to the creative talent of Davy Mac a strong logo was produced which can be seen predominantly on our website and applications.

After the Digital Robot initial branding was completed we were off to SXSW in order to meet other developers and also clients. This proved to be a very successful trip for us and we are currently working with a number of US clients in order to develop creative solutions in order to meet their requirements.

After SXSW we were happy to announce a new member to the team, Adrian Hanna joined us as our Principal Enterprise Architect. Adie is our lead Android developer and a master of scaling backend systems for our enterprise solutions.

We are also extremely fortunate to announce another member to the team, Adam McAllister has joined us as our in house UI designer. Adam produces extremely high end quality design work and is welcomed addition to the team.

We will be talking to a few more people about intern positions later this month and will hopefully have some more good news to announce.

I am sure most of you will have noticed that we are now rocking a ground breaking website. This is down to the creative genius of Mr Andy Good (McMillan). When not running world class design conferences he is putting his mad skills into practice with great results.

We will be regularly updating our blog ‘The Manual’ with development news, research and tutorials.
